Privatisation in Infrastructure  
 

The "Build Operate & Transfer" (B.O.T.) schedules have been very successful in the under developed countries & developing nations. The bold incentives given by the finance minister in Budget by declaration of highway sector as a Infrastructure Industry has reaching effect, due to 5 years tax holiday declared in the Budget for Infrastructure Projects constructed on B.O.T. basis will encourage the major Indian Industrial Houses as well as Multinationals to enter into the field of financing large - infra structure projects. The regulatory environment in India has undergone a sea change under the new economic policy launched in July 1991. Foreign investment is not only welcome, it is a priority on the economic agenda of the central & all state Governments. The Government also encourage foreign investors by relaxing various policy matters with the Infrastructure industry made open for private investment, huge projects are coming in following sectors.

At present, in India there are many contractors for the construction of highways.
The reasons for that are :

  • No special technical know-how required for this.
  • The standard machineries required like earthmoving equipment, hot mix plant etc. are readily available in Indian Market.

Where as for Bridges, Viaducts, Jetties etc. There are not many contractors at present in India.
The reasons for this are :

  • Special technical know how is required.
  • The most of the machineries required for executing foundations, sub-structure & superstructure are to be developed by the contractors to suit their specific requirements. It involves huge fund & each bridge, viaduct jetty has different design & specifications to suit to available geological condition & hydraulic conditions.

As a result, we foresee big demand in the market for the contractors specialized in the field of construction of bridges, viaducts, jetties etc. having expertise in tacking different foundation techniques, construction techniques for construction with necessary reserves setup.

Vijay M. Mistry Construction Pvt. Ltd., has completed the following projects as Entrepreneur on BOT basis :

  • Design and Construction of R.O.B at Dahej near Bharuch ( Gujarat ) in a record time of 13 months against allotted time of 22 months.

  • Design and construction of Bridge across river Mahi (J.V with Rajkamal Builders) near Vadodara (Gujarat) costing Rs.420 millions on B.O.T. basis in a period of 15 months against allotted time period of 24 months.

Vijay M. Mistry Construction Pvt. Ltd., has also constructed following B.O.T. Bridges as a technical counter part :

  • Bridge across Gambhira River, Indore (M.P.) for Infrastructure Leasing and Finance Service Ltd. (First B.O.T. Project in India),

  • 3 bridges for Prakash Asphalting works at Mandsaur (M.P.),

  • R.O.B. at Chalthan near Surat (Gujarat) for Ashvika Construction Co., Baroda (first B.O.T. project in Gujarat state)

  • R.O.B. near Kalol, Gujarat for Ahmedabad Mehsana Toll Road Co. Ltd., Ahmedabad

  • High level bridge across river Tapi at Burhanpur, M. P. for Ashoka Buildcon Ltd., Nashik
